About the Reese Cleghorn MDDC Internship Program

Internships for summer 2007 will be offered to student journalists attending any four-year college in Maryland, Delaware or the District of Columbia or who reside in the MDDC region and attend four-year colleges elsewhere.

Internships are available for news reporting, copy editing or photojournalism. Interns will be paid $300 a week after taxes for eight weeks. Applicants must have the use of a motor vehicle during the internship.

Students who have demonstrated a strong career interest in newspaper writing, copy editing or photojournalism are eligible to apply. They should either have completed a college-level course in one of these subjects or have the equivalent experience on a college or community newspaper. Interest in a print journalism career can be demonstrated by enrollment in a college journalism program and/or by working on a college or community newspaper. MDDC will assist the interns in obtaining college credit.

Samples of newspaper writing, copy editing or photojournalism, either published or submitted for a college-level course, will be required.

Assignments will be made to participating newspapers as near as possible to the residences of successful applicants. Some of these newspapers will be dailies and others will be weeklies. Assignment to a particular newspaper will be subject to the approval of the editor.

Newspapers that have participated include: The (Annapolis) Capital, The (Easton) Star Democrat, Columbia Flier, Maryland Gazette, Delaware State News, The (Hagerstown) Herald-Mail, Common Denominator, The Daily Record, The Journal Newspapers, Carroll County Times, The Aegis, Ocean City Today, The Gazette, Newark Post, Cape Gazette, Cecil Whig, Towson Times, The Bowie Blade-News, and The Frederick News-Post.
