Recycl
ed Newsprint Reporting

All publishers who distribute newspapers in Maryland are reminded that quarterly and annual reports of their usage of recycled content newsprint must be filed with the Maryland Department of the Environment. Newspapers are required to file whether or not they print their own newspaper. If a newspaper does not print its own paper, then the newspaper and its printer must file appropriate reports.

Any newspaper that does not file reports on a quarterly and annual basis is in noncompliance with the state’s mandatory newsprint recycling law.

Filing deadlines under the state’s Newsprint Recycled Content Act are:

  • Jan 31 — for October-December of the previous year
  • Jan 31 — for previous year's Annual Report
  • Apr 30 — for January - March of the current year
  • Jul 31 — for April - June of the current year
  • Oct 31 — for July l - September of the current year
