How does the Bulk Advertising Network work?

MDDC members commit to running ads in their publication and online for up to three networks: Line Classified, Small Display, and Daily Classified.  In exchange for consistently running the ads sent to them each week (Wednesdays), the publication receives a rebate for Line Classified and Small Display networks.  There is no rebate for the Daily Classified program.

Selling advertising into these programs is a significant portion of MDDC's revenues and helps us control dues increases and provide for other programming.

How often do ads run in the networks?

In the Line Classified and Small Display programs, ads run once a week.  In the Daily Classified, they run five days a week.  Publishers have ultimate control over the ads that run in their publications and may choose to not run an ad based on space constraints or content.  However, we do ask that publications consistently run the ads and notify MDDC when ads do not run.

How much are the rebates?

The rebates are calculated based on the publication's circulation as a percentage of the total network circulation.  The Line Classified Network year runs from December 1 – November 30, and the profit distribution is mailed out in December.  The Small Display Network year runs from May 1 - April 30, and the profit distribution is mailed out in June.  The rebates are determined in a two-step process. First, each participating newspaper receives $100. Next, the remaining balance is divided among the participating newspapers based on circulation. If, for example, a newspaper’s circulation equals 2% of the total circulation of the CAN, then its share is 2% of the revenue.
