Dear Editors and
Publishers: Every year, it
seems, state legislatures in the hunt for revenue sources take aim at public notice
advertising in newspapers. Bills are introduced -- we have at least two so far in Maryland
this year -- to revoke the newspaper publication requirement or to move the notice onto a
state-operated Web site. Promoting the
importance of these notices to the public is one way to build support for them
and to help deflect such legislation. In that spirit, your MDDC Board of Directors
thought it would be helpful to make the attached ad available to you for consideration of
