Restaurant / Entertainment

Individual ad featuring restaurants or food (fast food to fine dining to supermarkets), entertainment, festivals, and/or sports.

1A: Large Print only  Published in print only, half-page or larger; black & white or color.
1B: Small Print only  Published in print only, smaller than half-page; black & white or color.
1C: Online only  Published only in the digital format; any size; black & white or color.
1D: Multi-media  Published in print and digital formats; any size; color or black & white; submit ads in both formats.

Retail

Individual ad featuring retail merchandise.

2A: Large Print only  Published in print only, half-page or larger; black & white or color.

Individual ad featuring non-retail business such as hotels, banks, funeral homes, health clubs, gyms, companies or services or political campaigns.

Individual ad featuring sales and/or service of any motorized vehicle.  Includes cars, trucks, motorcycles, boats, airplanes, all-terrain vehicles, jet skis and any peripherals such as tires, parts, motors, etc.

5B: Small Print only  Published in print only, smaller than half-page; black & white or color.

Advertising Campaign

Series of ads showing continuity or idea for a specific product or service (not self-promotion or community service promotion).  May be any type of ad:  retail, institutional, automotive, etc.  Each ad in series should be different.

6A: Large Print only  Published in print only, half-page or larger; black & white or color.
6B: Small Print only  Published in print only, smaller than half-page; black & white or color.
6C: Online only  Published only in the digital format; any size; black & white or color.

REVENUE GENERATORS


New Business Idea (category 7)

Wide open to new ideas.  This category may include incentives, contests, promotions, design/format ideas and non-traditional revenue sources that have produced plus business.  Materials used in the promotion of the idea should be submitted and online components may be included.  Must have been the first year for the idea.

Event Idea (category 8)

Submit your best event idea, including a description of the event, target audience, goals for the event (financial or strategic) and how you promoted the event.  Entries judged on basic idea and execution.  Materials used in the promotion of the event should be submitted and online components may be included. 

Innovative Concept / Wild Card (category 9)

Any idea, ad or product that didn’t fit into any other category.  This could include event logos, e-books, booklets, other publications such as calendars, newsletters, posters, promotional materials, special rates or advertiser incentives or any one ad, a sample of materials, etc.

 
STANDOUT PERSONNEL


Sales Executive of the Year

Top award chosen from the winners of the three individual awards below.  All entries in this category require letter of recommendation from sales manager and a recent headshot of nominee.  One award will be given across all divisions.

10A: Overcoming Obstacles  Sales executive succeeded in overcoming obstacles.  Submit letter of recommendation including specific challenging factors in the marketplace and how the executive overcame those challenges. Include recent headshot of nominee. One award will be given across all divisions.  
10B: Idea Generator  Sales executive generates successful ideas for increasing revenue and presence of the publication.  Submit letter of recommendation including specific ideas from executive and how those ideas affected the publication. Include recent headshot of nominee. One award will be given across all divisions.  
10C: Rookie of the Year  Sales executive must be new to the field (hired later than January 1, 2015) and shown revenue generation, sales expertise and initiative. Include recent headshot of nominee. Submit letter of recommendation detailing accomplishments and including start date. One award will be given across all divisions.  

Designer of the Year (category 11)

Submit a body of work (8-10 pieces) from a single designer, showing creativity and ability to design across platforms.  Requires letter of recommendation from manager and recent headshot of nominee. One award will be given across all divisions. 

 

PUBLICATION PROMOTIONS

Community Service Program (category 12)

Any one community service program in whole or in part by your publication; not expose’ or editorial in nature, but an example of the publication participating in the life of the community by giving advertising support to a worthwhile subject, cause or event. Submit a brief statement as to how the program was received on the effectiveness of the program and how it was received.

House Promotion Ads (category 13)

Ad or campaign featured in print and/or website.  Original ads designed to increase circulation, classified sales, readership, or image or prestige of publication. Maximum submission of 10 ads.   Entries will be judged on basic idea, layout, copy, typography, headline, use of white space, originality and effectiveness.  Overall winner of category will be voted on at Awards Program Event.

Self-Promotion (category 14)

Ads that demonstrate the way you promote your publication to generate new advertisers and revenue. Use of ready-made ads or materials is unacceptable. Campaigns include any or all of the following:  ads, text messages, e-blasts, mobile ads, online ads, direct mail, billboards, inserts.  Ad-only campaigns go to Category 13.  Submit a full-page electronic tearsheet for each entry and/or entire media or marketing materials including any online components. Entries will be judged on basic idea, layout, copy, typography, headline, use of white space, originality and effectiveness.  Overall winner of category will be voted on at Awards Program Event.

 

ADDITIONAL PUBLICATIONS


Special Section, in-paper product (category 15)

Any special section that is published and distributed in the publication at least once a year. This includes progress reports, school sports, bridal, back-to-school, lawn & garden, holiday greetings, recipe or cooking, school graduation, mall or shopping center, downtown, and fashion merchandising. A section may be any unit of four or more consecutive pages, standard or tabloid.  Entries will be judged on basic idea, adaptability to other markets, organization and development of theme in the section and on the publication cover.

Special Publication - standalone (category 16)

Any special section that is published and distributed as a standalone product at least once a year. This includes custom publishing work, TMC, magazines, etc. A section may be any unit of four or more consecutive pages, standard or tabloid.  Entries will be judged on basic idea, adaptability to other markets, organization and development of theme in the section and on the publication cover.

Special Niche Website (category 17)

Niche website or microsite developed for or by advertising.  Entries will be judged on basic idea, layout, originality and effectiveness.

Custom Publication (category 18)

Any publication created to benefit a client or partnership, distributed within the paper or as a standalone. This includes programs for community events or non-profits, Chambers of Commerce, Visitors Bureaus, Car Dealership Anniversary pubs, Real Estate Associations, etc. A section may be any unit of four or more consecutive pages, standard or tabloid. Entries will be judged on basic idea, layout, originality and effectiveness. Must submit statement on how publication has impacted the client or partnership.
