The 2014 winner (award presented in May, 2015) is Pat Richardson, formerly of the Carroll County Times and Annapolis Capital. Pat was nominated for the Distinguished Service Award by consensus of the MDDC Board.
Richardson is publisher of the Virginian-Pilot and president of Pilot Media in Norfolk, VA. Prior to her move to Virginia in 2014, Richardson was the publisher of the Capital-Gazette and the Carroll County Times. She came to Maryland in 2007, having served in various corporate advertising and management roles for Landmark Community Newspapers, then the parent of both the Carroll County Times and Annapolis Capital.
Richardson holds a BS degree in business administration from the University of Maine and a MBA from the University of Louisville.
Richardson has been a steadfast supporter of the press association. She was a member of the MDDC Board of Directors and was president in 2012. Jack Murphy, retired executive director of MDDC, notes “Pat was a workhorse of our organization, and her skills and intelligence were invaluable. She was instrumental in creating the ad revenue agreement with MANSI Media, and she worked tirelessly to improve the revenue picture, even while her role at Landmark was growing. Her wise advice and unswerving friendship, both to MDDC staff and to the entire organization, were unparalleled.”
