Public Notice Web Sites
Public notices in newspapers are a vital element of an open government. To assure governmental transparency, a record of its actions should be published in the most accessible format available to the public — newspapers.
In response to growing efforts by Internet companies to pass legislation that would permit them to carry public notices online, MDDC has joined other state newspaper associations in providing members with an online vehicle for their public notices to serve as a companion benefit to placing public notice ads in their newspapers.
Three sites — one each for Maryland, Delaware and the District of Columbia — have been created under the national umbrella Web site, PublicNoticeAds.com. All MDDC members who carry public notices are asked to post all of their ads to the appropriate sites.
By providing this outlet for members, MDDC is helping to protect this revenue source for its members while also preserving newspapers' role as a both valuable community resource and a guardian of open government.
To post your newspaper's public notices on your state's or the District's site, contact Communications Manager Stephanie Wilder for either manual or auto-upload instructions.
