Washington Post Wins Pulitzer

The Washington Post, member of the Maryland Delaware DC Press Association, has won a 2014 Pulitzer prize for Public Service, "for its revelation of widespread secret surveillance by the National Security Agency, marked by authoritative and insightful reports that helped the public understand how the disclosures fit into the larger framework of national security." Additionally, Eli Saslow, also of the Washington Post, was awarded a Pulitzer for Explanatory Reporting, "for his unsettling and nuanced reporting on the prevalence of food stamps in post-recession America, forcing readers to grapple with issues of poverty and dependency." MDDC Awards in Editorial and Advertising: Honoring Excellence in Media
The judges have selected the winning entries for the 2013 Maryland Delaware DC Press Association's Awards in Editorial and Advertising. This year, we received 2013 entries from 72 member newspapers for the editorial contests and 278 entries from 16 member newspapers in the advertising contest. Members of the Kentucky Press Association judged the contest, which recognizes excellence in editorial, advertising and design in member publications. ... More

MDDC Supports Maryland HB 385

Maryland HB 385 Privileged Communications – Dissemination of News or Information by Certain Persons
The MDDC Press Association supports Maryland HB 385, a bill that would extend Maryland’s current shield law to independent contractors of the news media when gathering or disseminating news. This bill is sponsored by Delegate Sandy Rosenberg.

If passed, the law will take effect October 1, 2014. It will be heard in the Maryland Senate, Judicial Proceedings Committee, on Wednesday, March 19th at 1 pm. ... More

Snyder Appointed Executive Director Of Maryland-Delaware-Dc Press Association

Maryland-Delaware-DC Press Association today named Rebecca Snyder executive director, effective immediately. She replaces Jack Murphy, who is retiring.

As executive director, Snyder is responsible for strategic and operational duties including staff, programs, expansion and execution of the organization’s mission. She will serve as an advocate for member newspapers and for journalism in general. ... More
