What is the effect of an MDDC internship?

Over the past 15 years, 112 MDDC interns from 33 schools have served 34 MDDC member publications in 22 towns throughout the region. For the 2015 internship year, MDDC received applications from 40 students representing 22 institutions and six internships were awarded.

In December 2014, MDDC surveyed its editors and past interns to better understand the effect the Reese Cleghorn Internship Program has on the career outcomes of its participants as well as the value it has in the hiring process. ... More

Reese Cleghorn interns announced for summer of 2015

Six interns were chosen for MDDC's highly competitive Reese Cleghorn internship program, which offers college students a paid, eight-week immersion in a professional newsroom. The selection committee, comprised of Terry Headlee of the Frederick News-Post, Frank Quine, retired University of Maryland, Philip Merrill School of Journalism, Steve Gunn of the Annapolis Capital, Paul Milton of the Baltimore Sun Media Group and Tom Lithicum, of the Capitol News Service, interviewed 13 candidates from 8 schools over a two-day period in January. ... Press Association names Hall of Fame and Distinguished Service honorees

The board of directors has chosen two long-serving newspaper men, Carl Murphy and Lee McCardell, to enter the Hall of Fame, and chose Pat Richardson to receive the Distinguished Service Award.
