GMS Special Events and Resource Coordinator, Associated Press, Washington, DC

The Associated Press seeks a GMS Special Events and Resource Coordinator for its Washington, D.C. location.

This position is a full-time temporary 18-month vacancy.   In order to successfully service a large pool of international and national broadcasters, individually and collectively, specific duties include:  
* Ability to determine broadcast requirements for breaking news and planned events.
* Ability to coordinate broadcast operations for special news events and breaking news.
* Identify, coordinate and negotiate with broadcast production vendors. 
* Identify, coordinate and negotiate with satellite and fiber providers throughout the Americas.
* Identify, coordinate and negotiate with SNG providers throughout the Americas.
* Knowledge of satellite and fiber transmission systems and booking procedures.
* Ability to successfully work with the ScheduALL resource management system.
* Ability to coordinate AP owned and operated studios.
* Ability to coordinate AP owned and operated transmission network.
* Ability to support international and national broadcast clientele.

* Experience working with satellite trucks.
* Experience coordinating broadcast transmissions and troubleshooting problems.
* Experience coordinating multimedia production.
* Experience working on a news event in the field.
* Experience covering a general election, midterm election or local election.
* Experience working in a news room, juggling multiple tasks simultaneously. 
* Experience working with an online resource management system.
* Ability to monitor and contribute to social media outlets.
* Ability to work successfully in a deadline driven environment and possess an enthusiastic approach to problem solving.
* A keen interest in news events.
* Well organized, detail-oriented, have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
* Excellent interpersonal skills and work well as part of a team.
* Willingness to work long hours, including weekends/holidays.
* Good demeanor and courteous manner with domestic and international broadcast client base. 
* Fluency in a foreign language other than English is a strong plus.
Advanced-level professional competency in written and spoken English language is required. Authorization to work in the United States for any employer is mandatory.
