Journalism Instructor, American University - Washington, DC

Journalism Instructor, Non-Tenure Track

The School of Communication at American University invites applications for a full-time, one-year term teaching position at the rank of Instructor beginning Aug. 22, 2016.

This position has a 3-3 course teaching load for each semester, and may include undergraduate and graduate courses offered during the week, in the evening, on weekends, or online. The successful candidate should be able to teach a wide range of courses, possibly including those focused on research and theory. All faculty are expected to hold office hours and participate in School and University activities and service. 


This position is integral the Journalism Division’s ongoing mission to prepare the next generation of multi-media journalists for the 21st century. A record of professional experience in at least three of the following is desired: producing and writing for broadcast news, producing and writing news for online digital platforms, data journalism, public opinion polling and interpreting polls for news reports, reporting on public affairs and public policy issues, using social media to gather and disseminate news. A master’s degree in a discipline relevant to public affairs and previous college-level teaching experience are required. We are looking for instructors who have a strong commitment to experiential learning. Candidates who have achieved fluency in Spanish are especially encouraged to apply.
