Express, The Washington Post’s award-winning free daily paper, is searching for a pop culture obsessive with excellent news judgment and strong editing skills to join its features team. He or she would produce the daily Entertainment section, scouring the wires and Post stories daily for the most interesting articles and news items for our on-the-go commuter readers.

The ideal candidate has his or her finger on the pulse of pop culture, with an extensive knowledge of topics as varied as “The Bachelor,” blockbuster movies, Beyonce, underground rappers, new Netflix series and up-and-coming comedians.

Duties include trimming long stories to fit our pages, writing clever headlines and cutlines, laying out pages with templates and working on our Internet-minded Blog Log page and our celebrity gossip page, People.

Careful attention to detail and knowledge of AP style are required. A familiarity with Express’ quick, witty style and experience working with InDesign, Photoshop, WordPress and social media platforms are plusses.

This is a position with room for growth and offers the opportunity to write for the section, as well as Express’ popular weekly local arts and events section, Weekend Pass, and our annual Best of D.C. issue.
Our hours are Sunday through Thursday, approximately 11:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Published by The Washington Post Co., Express is read by more than 325,000 commuters Monday through Friday. Express is based in downtown D.C., near McPherson Square Metro.

Please send your résumé, a cover letter, three published clips, examples of headlines and, if you have them, three before-and-after editing samples, toworkatexpress@washpost.com by Friday, Aug. 5.

No phone calls, please.
