Producer, Midday with Tom Hall, Baltimore, MD

WYPR’s one-hour news, public policy and culture show, Midday with Tom Hall, seeks a Producer to join a small team of dedicated journalists who cover a wide range of topics.  Shows feature interviews with the host and listener call-ins, e-mails and Tweets.  Our show features diverse voices from all walks of life.  Guests are newsmakers and experts on topics that include local, national and international news, politics, race, health, ethics, education, science, popular culture, the arts and more.  Midday airs M-F from 12:00-1:00 PM.

Responsibilities of the Producer include suggesting and developing story ideas, booking guests, doing background research, drafting preparation materials and scripts for the host, gathering, editing and loading audio for use in the airshows, posting podcasts, and engaging listeners through social media.

The position requires at least two years of experience in journalism and broadcast production, strong writing skills, and experience booking guests for a news magazine show.  The successful candidate must be able to write quickly and accurately for broadcast and the web. Precise attention to detail and sharp news judgment are a must, as is the ability to multitask. Data-driven and other multimedia-based journalism skills are a plus, as is proficiency in Adobe Audition or other audio editing programs and familiarity with studio production.

The successful candidate will also be comfortable in Midday’s highly collaborative, deadline-driven environment.
