Nominate transparency advocates for Maryland Boards and Commissions

We need you!

Maryland needs individuals committed to open government and transparency to weigh in on these important boards:

  • Open Meetings Compliance Board.  Three-member volunteer board that issues non-binding opinions regarding complaints about the Open Meetings Acts.  Board is staffed by Attorney General’s office in Baltimore and meets regularly.  Board members are appointed by Governor Hogan and require Senate confirmation.
  • Public Information Act Compliance Board.  Five-member volunteer board that issues binding opinions regarding complaints about fees under the Public Information Act.  Fees charged must be over $350 to be considered by the board.  Board will take effect with the law October 1, 2015 and will be staffed by Attorney General’s office in Baltimore and meet regularly.  Board members are appointed by Governor Hogan and require Senate confirmation.
  • Commission Regarding the Implementation and Use of Body Cameras by Law Enforcement Officers.  Nineteen-member volunteer commission (three general public seats) to provide recommendations for implementation and use of body cameras by law enforcement.  Work will be completed by October 1, 2015 when a report must be issued to the Maryland Police Training Commission.

All roles require Maryland residency and active voter registration.  Nominees should not have the issues of the board as part of their daily professional duties but should be knowledgeable about the issues that come before the board.  Application is required and time is of the essence.  Application materials can be found here.

The Association is actively working to promote nominations for these influential boards.  Please contact Rebecca Snyder if you would like to serve or have ideas on potential nominations.
