FOI Training Scheduled for May 24 |
| In its continuing effort to improve access to public information in
Maryland, MDDC is presenting a Freedom of Information Training workshop for the press and
government officials on May 24 at The Baltimore Sun. The day-long training, co-sponsored with the Academy for Excellence in Local Governance at the University of Maryland, will cover the Maryland Public Information Act and the Open Meetings Act. It is a chance for participants to understand the nuts and bolts of the laws and hear from people who work with them everyday, said Jeff Griffith of the Academy. The training is for members of the press and fellows in the Academy, which include state, county and municipal government employees, providing a chance for the groups to interact, said Griffith. Following the format of the sessions in December and January, where more than 200 government employees were trained, there will be reviews of the laws, panel discussions and problem solving, as well as time for discussion among the participants. Registration information will be mailed to all MDDC members shortly. |
