Video on Women in News Available

SHE SAYS: Women in News, a one-hour video about the role of women in today’s journalism, is available to borrow from the MDDC library.

The program, whichwas presented on PBS stations, features women in positions of power in the newsroom as they discuss how women are changing the news agenda, and the culture of the newsroom. Among the women interviewed are Geneva Overholser of The Washington Post.

Toolbox is Useful Journalist Resource

Looking for information on a specific topic for a story? The Journalist’s Toolbox is a Web site with more than 7,500 links organized by beats and topics.

Some of the listings include Sept. 11 resources, business, federal government, state government, search tools, military, public records and more.

Mike Reilly, a former reporter for The Los Angeles Times and Chicago Tribune, built and runs the free site.

Scholastic Press has Summer Courses

The Maryland Scholastic Press Association will offer seven courses as part of its summer journalism program for students. Held at the Philip Merrill College of Journalism, June 24 - 28, the program is co-sponsored by The Washington Post.

The five-day programs include desktop publishing, news writing, sports writing, poetry and courses for editors.

Scholarship applications are due April 17 and Early Registration Deadline is May 8. For more information call (301) 405-8321.
