Daily Record’s Fischer-Huettner elected as MDDC President

Press association also elects Phillips (Afro), Wilson (Frederick News-Post), Acton (Post-Newsweek) and Womer (Herald-Mail)
Suzanne Fischer-Huettner, publisher of the Daily Record in Baltimore, was elected president of the MDDC Press Association at the annual meeting, Thursday, Nov. 14, at the Crofton Country Club in Crofton, MD.
Fischer-Huettner replaces Paul Milton, editor of the Baltimore Sun Community Newspapers. The board officers are all elected to one-year terms.
Fischer-Huettner takes the reins of the association at a critical time. The group is searching for a new executive director to replace the retiring Jack Murphy, who has held the job since 2006. Fischer-Huettner and Milton are co-chairs of the search committee.
Ben Phillips of the Afro Newspapers was elected vice president and Geordie Wilson of the Frederick News Post was elected treasurer. Joining the executive committee for a second time is Karen Acton, CEO of Post-Newsweek Media LLC, which publishes the Gazette newspapers and Southern Maryland Newspapers. Acton previously served as president in 2006.
Jake Womer, executive editor of the Herald-Mail in Hagerstown, was elected to a new three-year term on the board of directors. He replaces Dave Elliott of the Herald Mail who left the board after two terms.
Re-elected to three-year terms on the Board of Directors were Joy Bramble of the Baltimore Times, Mike Kilian of the Daily Times in Salisbury, Tim Thomas of the Baltimore Sun and Pat Richardson of the Capital Gazette in Annapolis and the Carroll County Times.
