Record Numbers Apply for MDDC Journalism Education Programs |
| A record number of applications have been
received for two MDDC journalism education programs. The deadline for both programs was
earlier this month. Twenty-three student journalists from nine colleges and universities in the MDDC region have applied for summer 2002 internships. And 20 high school journalists have entered the competition for the High School Journalist of the Year Award. In MDDCs four-year-old internship program, up to 10 students each summer are selected to spend eight-week internships on the editorial staffs of Association-member newspapers. MDDC pays a $300-a-week stipend to each. The High School Journalist program is sponsored by the MDDC Press Foundation. The winner receives a $1,500 cash award and is honored at the annual MDDC Editorial Awards Luncheon, March 1 in Washington. The Associations Journalism Education Committee interviews the applicants and makes the selections in both programs. |
