Delaware FBI Citizens Academy accepts applications until February 23

The Baltimore Division of the Federal Bureau of Investigation is hosting the Delaware Citizens Academy for five sessions this spring. The application deadline is February 23.

We view the Citizens Academy as a multifaceted tool to accomplish several important things: providing education and awareness of FBI operations and jurisdictions; constructing firm relationships with community leaders; and enhancing the Community Outreach Program through continued dialogue and interaction with the community itself. The Academy consists of community business, civic, media executives, and religious executives/leaders in the Maryland and Delaware area.

During these sessions, substantive presentations are given by FBI instructors regarding various investigative programs including International and Domestic Terrorism, Violent Crime, Criminal Enterprise/Gangs, Human Trafficking, Active Shooter, Public Corruption, Cyber Crime, Foreign Counterintelligence, Forensics Overview and an Interactive Demonstration, and Recruitment/Hiring Initiatives. The range session will be held at the firearms range where you will view weapons of mass destruction and SWAT demonstrations. In addition, you will participate in a firearms exercise.

The Academy will be held at Delaware State Police, Troop 2, 100 LaGrange Avenue, Newark, Delaware 19702. The classes will be held Tuesdays, April 3, 10, and 24; Wednesday, April 18; and Tuesday, May 1, 2018 (6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.). The Range Day, held on a Saturday, has not been set.  There is a cost for the catered meals through the FBI Baltimore Citizens Academy Alumni Association.

If you can’t attend, please nominate an executive member of your staff.

Successful completion of the Academy requires your attendance at all sessions. If you wish to attend the academy, Please complete the online application at Citizens Academy Application. This will authorize the FBI to conduct routine law enforcement record checks on your background. The FBI reserves the right to rescind this invitation based on the results of the record checks. All participants will be selected by the Baltimore Divisions' Special Agent in Charge. If you are selected, a formal letter of invitation will be sent to you.

The deadline to apply is February 23, 2018. If you have questions about the FBI's Citizens Academy, please visit our website at Citizens Academy or contact Community Outreach Specialist, Marvella L. Gray at 410-277-6289.
