Executive Director Update - August 2014

This end-of-August update finds the staff at MDDC energized and ready for fall. We've made headway on many of the initiatives I wrote about earlier this summer. We've moved to a new location in downtown Annapolis, which enables me to be more hands on with our lobbying efforts. At the direction of the executive committee, we've developed a new Audit committee, to better monitor and assess our investment

strategy. I've been excited to see the work beginning in our FOIA/PIA working group, which will act as a clearing house and advisor on these important and often thorny issues. MDDC member have been especially active this summer, working to create a strong professional development series which will focus on sales and editorial topics, providing feedback on advertising and editorial contest categories,as well as a number of issues both big and small.

We are all looking ahead to the wonderful opportunities in the fall and in 2015. I'm thrilled to be sharing news of our industry and our association with others, through events like the MDDC-prepared panel on the intersection between the Public Information Act and electronic media at September's Maryland Municipal League fall conference and a keynote address to the quarterly meeting of the Chesapeake Professional Women's Network in November. I look forward to more robust MDDC-sponsored events in 2015 and sharing the innovative ways MDDC members are changing the industry.
