Fall 2020 Readership Survey launches

MDDC supports its members’ efforts to understand their readership and provide actionable data for editorial and advertising initiatives. Annually, the Audience Development committee creates a readership survey that each publication can use to survey its audience.  Each publication will have its own survey link, and MDDC will provide the results of the individual publication survey as well as an overview of the entire region.  Want to look at the survey?  Click here.

There will be a kick-off webinar to help launch the survey on September 16 and a wrap up webinar to discuss the findings on October 28th.  Register for the webinar.  The surveyis open from September 13th to October 28th. 

How can you take advantage of this initiative?

  1.  Tell Rebecca you want to participate.  She will generate a publication-specific URL for you.  If you have more than one publication / website that you would like to survey, please get a URL for each one. 
  2. Provide an incentive for respondents.  We recommend a $50 gift card.  Once the survey closes, we will choose a random individual from your respondent pool and communicate that information to you so you can send out your prize.
  3. Publicize the initiative.  Only you can encourage your readers to respond to the survey.  Best practices for publicizing are included below.  We have provided customizable advertising, a publisher’s note, and copy for the email blasts.  All you need to do is drop your logo and publication-specific URL in.  Click here for the ads and copy.
  4. Wait for results.  The survey will close October 28th and results will be sent to participating members by November 1st.  

Best practices

  • Customize the ads provided with your publication-specific URL and logo.
  • Send an initial launch email to entire distribution list on September 13th when the survey opens.
  • Publicize the survey using the customized ads in your print publication, on your website and on social media.
  • Post often on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and other social media outlets to drive traffic and check to make sure the ads are running in your publication and on your website.
  • Send a Don’t Forget email October 19th in advance of the October 28th survey close.
