The Poe Endowment Fund

The Poe Endowment Fund was established in recognition of the lifelong dedication of Gertrude L. Poe and her late “Poe Sisters”: Myrtle Poe Donaldson, Margaret Poe Vogts, Ruby Poe King, and Verna Poe, her parents Bertha Frances Gore and Worthy Gibson Poe and family members who attended worship,Sunday School and spent much time at FUMCL. The Poe family moved to Laurel in 1927 and began worshipping at the then-Centenary Methodist Episcopal Church on Main Street in Laurel. “The Poe Sisters” dedicated their lives to working in various capacities, committees and fundraisers for the FUMCL as well as making it their spiritual home. At the time of Margaret Poe Vogts and Myrtle Poe Donaldson’s deaths in 1997 and 1998 respectively they were the longest-lived members of FUMCL. Gertrude L. Poe is currently the longest-lived active member.
