Summer Convention Features New
Programs and Mountain Location
The MDDC Press Association's Summer Convention, featuring several new program segments, will move west this year to the beautiful mountain country near Cumberland instead of its usual trip east to the ocean or Eastern Shore.
The Sept. 7-9 convention will be staged for the first time at the new Rocky Gap Lodge & Golf Resort, which is located in Rocky Gap State Park just two hours from Baltimore and Washington.
While decisions on speakers and program details are still being developed, this year’s convention will feature programs on advertising, circulation and technology subjects, reflecting the Association’s recent efforts to either expand or create committees in these areas. The Legal Roundtable, a popular staple of summer conventions featuring commentary from and Q&A with media lawyers, will be presented.
In addition to an expanded convention program, participants will enjoy a facility that features a Jack Nicklaus Signature golf course and outdoor adventure activities including hiking, fishing, biking and boat rentals.
Visit nearby Cumberland with historic sites such as the C&O Canal National Historic Park or go shopping for antiques and other treasures in the heart of town. For the truly adventurous, activities like rappelling, rock climbing, kayaking and caving (spelunking) are available in Rocky Gap State Park and at nearby facilities.
The convention also includes an informal reception and cookout Thursday night, the Past President’s Reception and Convention Dinner on Friday, and the annual MDDC Golf Tournament on Saturday morning.
Room rate for the convention is $125 single/double with a $3 state park fee. Contact the Rocky Gap Resort at 1-800-724-0828 by Aug. 15 and mention MDDC to make your reservations. More convention registration and program information will be mailed soon.
