Lieberman Resigns from Washington Post, MDDC Board

By Jack Murphy

Eric Lieberman, MDDC’s vice president and the longtime chair of the Government Affairs Committee, will be leaving MDDC after his resignation from The Washington Post Co.

Lieberman is leaving the Post to become general counsel of a new cable subsidiary of Disney that will be headquartered in Miami. He starts his new duties next month.

Lieberman was elected to the MDDC board of directors eight years ago and immediately took the chair at GAC. He has been deeply involved with our legislative efforts in Annapolis and the District, and in addition he has worked closely with the Rules Committee of the Maryland judiciary to keep courtrooms and court records open.

He was elected an officer of the association two years ago, and was in line to become president of our organization next year. In addition to his efforts for MDDC, Lieberman also was a director and an officer of the Virginia Press Association.

In another change for MDDC, Board member Greg Bassett has left his job as the general manager and executive editor of the Salisbury Daily Times and will no longer serve on our board.

Both the Post and the Daily Times are expected to nominate new members for the board. The seats will be filled at the next regular board meeting May 17.
