Spring is Advertising Season at MDDC

Spring is a busy time for MDDC advertising programs. Mark your calendars, since you won’t want to miss any of these upcoming events.

March 12 was the deadline for entries in the "Best of 2000" Advertising Contest. This year’s contest will be judged by advertising staffs from North Carolina newspapers.

The awards will be presented at Advertising Day on Friday April 27 at Marriott’s Hunt Valley Inn, north of Baltimore. Winners will receive certificates for first place, second and honorable mention. Best of Show awards in each of the 12 categories and Sweepstakes awards to the top newspaper in each of the five circulation divisions will also be announced.

In addition to the awards luncheon, Ad Day will include a workshop on Ad Layout & Design, an MDDC Advertising Committee meeting, and Board of Directors meeting.

On March 22, MDDC is sponsoring a Retail Advertising Workshop featuring Steve Wishnow, former senior vice president/director of sales promotion and marketing at Hecht’s/Strawbridge’s.

Wishnow will cover topics including a retail update and the changes occurring in the retail sector today, improving sales presentations to large and small retailers, and five new advertising revenue opportunities. The workshop will be at the Crofton Country Club from 9 a.m. to noon. Registration forms have been mailed and are available at www.mddcpress.com.

And MDDC will soon be looking for volunteers to judge the Pennsylvania Newspaper Association’s display advertising contest in early April. Six to eight judges are needed for the day to evaluate the entries from daily and non-daily newspapers. Anyone interested should contact MDDC at (410) 721-4000.

Information on all these advertising activities is continuously updated on the MDDC Web site and is included in regular mailings to member newspapers.
