MDDC Foundation Trustees, Officers Elected |
| Two new members have joined the Board of
Trustees of the MDDC Press Foundation and officers have been chosen for the current year. At the annual Foundation membership meeting April 26, Tom Schmidt, president of Carroll Publishing Co., and Bill Holland, vice president of marketing for the Printing Division of Chesapeake Publishing Co., were elected to the Board. With the resignation of Trustee Legusta Floyd, publisher of The Prince Georges Post, the two additions bring Board membership to eight. As president of the MDDC Press Association, Schmidts election fulfills the Foundation bylaws requirement that at least one Association officer serve on the trustee board. Holland is a past president of the Association. Peggy Schiff, vice president/controller of The Washington Post, was re-elected president of the Foundation at the trustees April 29 meeting. Other officers re-elected were Jean Halle of Calvert Educational Services as treasurer and Attorney Alice Lucan as secretary. Mike Powell, managing editor of The Frederick News-Post, was chosen vice president, replacing Floyd in that role. The other two members of the Board of Trustees are John J. Oliver, Jr., The Afro-American Newspapers and Jim Keat, a retired editor of The Baltimore Sun. The Foundation is a private, tax-deductible foundation created by the MDDC Press Association in December 1998 to enhance newspaper journalism in Maryland, Delaware and the District of Columbia. Its major emphasis is on the young, specifically on high school and college students and journalism advisors and teachers. |
