Chesapeake Buys Avenue Newspapers

Chesapeake Publishing now has community newspapers in Baltimore County with the recent purchase of the Essex and Perry Hall Avenues.
The Avenue Newspapers, with a combined 80,000 circulation, rank among the largest in circulation of any of Chesapeake’s community newspapers.
The sale was announced by Ken Coldwell, owner of the Avenue Newspapers, and Tom Bradlee, president of Chesapeake Publishing, in late September.
"We’re delighted to acquire the Avenue Newspapers," said Bradlee. "The newspapers fit well with our growth strategy in Maryland. We are committed to community journalism and look forward to continuing the tradition of community involvement which the Avenue Newspapers have undertaken."
Coldwell said he is pleased to have the Avenue Newspapers become part of Chesapeake Publishing.
"We both publish quality community newspapers and also strive to provide community leadership," said Coldwell.
The acquisition of the Avenue Newspapers brings to 55 the total number of Chesapeake-owned publications in Maryland, Delaware, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Virginia.
