SPJ Maryland Pro Looking for Scholarship Program Volunteers

SPJ Maryland-Pro is in the process of forming a scholarship committee that will award a scholarship award to Maryland residents who are undergraduate journalism students. The chapter is looking for three to four volunteers with the goal of enhancing the overall scholarship competition for Maryland residents who are undergraduate journalism students.

The amount has yet to be determined, but a tentative deadline for the inaugural award is set for Spring, 2014. This is so undergraduate winners of an award can be contacted before universities adjourn the winter semester before summer classes begin. The Maryland Pro chapter, headed by Salisbury University professor David Burns, is encouraging all SPJ members to join the committee charged with reviewing past rules and recommending any possible changes.

"Right now this is a work in progress," said SPJ Maryland Pro vice-president Steve Schuster. "We haven't yet determined any specifics, as far as the dollar amount or amount of scholarship winners. All of those specifics will be decided by the committee."

If you have an interest in volunteering your time and expertise to further the future of journalism, contact Schuster via email here.
