Proudly Serving Maryland, Delaware and D.C. Newspapers Since 1908

Sunshine Week is March 13-19

Sunshine Week (this year, March 13-19) is an annual celebration of the important work each of us are doing in our communities to encourage access to public information.  The American Society of News Editors and Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press team together to sponsor an annual "Toolkit" that is full of free resources that individual publications can use during Sunshine Week

Sunshine Week is about the public’s right to know what its government is doing, and why.  Within the Press Association, these issues are discussed often through our FOIA/PIA Committee, chaired by Trif Alatzas, of the Baltimore Sun (full committee list here).  At the committee's direction, the Association has developed a section of the website devoted to FOIA issues in Maryland and Delaware (DC is coming soon!).  We've also developed an Op-Ed, authored by Rebecca Snyder of MDDC and Jennifer Bevan-Dangel of Common Cause Maryland that you can use to highlight the transparency bills in Maryland's legislature.  The graphic on this page may also be used and customized for Sunshine Week.

Bring the sunshine in!
