Support Young Journalists on Giving Tuesday

The Press Foundation supports young journalists through its Reese Cleghorn Internship program and Michael S. Powell High School Journalist of the Year award.  We need your support to sustain these critical programs.  This December 1, Giving Tuesday, please give to support local journalism.

Donate through PayPal Giving during the month of December and PayPal will add 1% to your gift.

Over 100 college students have had pivotal experiences over the past 16 years, serving as interns at member newspapers through the MDDC Press Foundation’s Reese Cleghorn Internship Program.

It is often one devoted mentor or a single opportunity to cover an exciting story that solidifies a young journalist’s commitment to journalism.

MDDC interns are treated like staffers and supported by mentors. In turn, they bring new life to our newsrooms with their innovative and multimedia skill sets. By harnessing young talent and keeping that talent local, we not only bolster students’ dedication to this career, but also build a stronger future for journalism in our region.

Each intern receives a stipend of $2,400 for the 8-week internship. To sustain this program and pay our interns, we rely on a portion of the profits from the MDDC Classified Ad Network and donations from individuals like you who believe in the importance of this training.
