Application Submission Period: Sept. 22 to Nov. 19, 2014
Finalist Notifications: Mid-December 2014
In-Person Interviews: Last week of December 2014 through first week of January 2015 (subject to revision).
Final Selections: February 2015.

Internships are offered to student journalists: 1) attending any four-year college in Maryland, Delaware or the District of Columbia, or 2) reside in the MDDC region and attend a four-year college elsewhere.

Internships are available for news reporting, copy editing or photojournalism.

Interns will be paid $300 a week after taxes for eight weeks.

Applicants must have the use of an automobile during the internship and be living within a reasonable driving distance of their assigned newspaper.

Students who have demonstrated a strong career interest in newspaper writing, copy editing or photojournalism are eligible to apply. They should have either completed a college-level course in one of these subjects or have the equivalent experience at a college or community newspaper. Internships are intended for undergraduates (rather than graduate students) with preference given to those with minimal or no previous internship experience. Those selected should be returning to classes for at least one semester following the internship.

Samples of newspaper writing, copy editing or photojournalism, either published or submitted for a college-level course, will be required.

Assignments will be made to participating newspapers as near as possible to the residences of the selected applicants.

Daily and weekly newspapers participate, and placements can be with either. Assignment to a particular newspaper will be subject to the approval of the editor.

Finalists for 2015 internships will be notified by mid-December. Finalists must submit to an in-person interview with the press association's Intern Selection Committee at the MDDC's Annapolis office in late December or early January.
