MDDC Hall of fame

The MDDC Hall of Fame, established in 1947, honors outstanding newspaper professionals whose careers were marked by excellence at news media organizations in Maryland, Delaware or the District of Columbia. Members of the Hall date back to the 19th century and hail from rural weekly papers, metro-area dailies and everything in between.

The Hall is located in the College of Journalism Building at the Philip Merrill College of Journalism at the University of Maryland College Park. Election to the Hall is a distinctive honor.  Candidates for the Hall of Fame have made outstanding contributions to the local news media Industry, including but not limited to, education, financial sustainability, innovation, and editorial content in Maryland, Delaware or the District of Columbia.

Posthumous nominations are acceptable. MDDC does not induct candidates into the Hall of Fame each year and the review panel and / or board may request additional information for candidates. Nominee(s) selected are honored at the MDDC Annual conference and awards program in May.

Nominations are accepted year-round, though must be received by December 31 for consideration for that year’s Hall of Fame induction. Nominations received are considered by the a review panel comprised of representatives of journalism schools in the region, a member of the Press Foundation, and a member of the Hall of Fame.  Recommendations from the review panel are taken to the MDDC Board of Directors for review and approval.
